Hodges & Fujitani Set New Standard in Team Doubles Wins
The Goucher College men’s tennis team fell, 5-4, to No. 20 regionally ranked Washington College on Sunday afternoon despite a record-setting performance by junior Jack Hodges (London, England) and senior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan) at No. 1 doubles.
BEL AIR, MD – The Goucher College men's tennis team fell, 5-4, to No. 20 regionally ranked Washington College on Sunday afternoon despite a record-setting performance by junior Jack Hodges (London, England) and senior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan) at No. 1 doubles.
Hodges and Fujitani surpassed 2016 teammates Joey Caracappa and Seth Hoesman for most team doubles win in Goucher men's tennis history. The win marks the duos 32nd win together.
During Sunday's match, Hodges and Fujitani defeated Washington College's Chris Salisbury and Jake Sandler, 8-6, to seal their position in the record books. Sophomore Josiah Meekins (Trenton, NJ) and freshman Frankie Mullinix (Washington, DC) pulled Goucher ahead, 2-1 after doubles play, defeating Luke Weaver and Matt Katz.
Freshman Slade Dumas (Great Falls, VA) and Fujitani defeated their opponents 6-4, 6-3; 6-1, 6-4, respectively. The win marks Fujitani's 56th singles win of his career. Dumas currently leads the Gophers with nine singles wins during the 2017 season. However, the Shoremen took No. 1 though No. 4 singles to seal the match, 5-4.
