Men's Tennis is Dealt Conference Loss at Home, 6-3
The Goucher College men’s tennis team dropped its first Landmark Conference match since 2015 to the University of Scranton, 6-3, at home on Saturday afternoon.
TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher College men's tennis team dropped its first Landmark Conference match since 2015 to the University of Scranton, 6-3, at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Gophers fell in all three doubles matches against the Royals. Sophomore Josiah Meekins (Trenton, NJ) and freshman Frankie Mullinix (Washington, DC) took Christian Aksu and Brian Harkins 9-7. Senior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan) and junior Jack Hodges (London, England) battled Keller McGurrin and Alexander Ochalski to a 9-8 (7-4) loss at No. 1 doubles.
Hodges rebounded to take McGurrin quickly, 6-0, 6-3 to earn the Gophers' first point of the match at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Elliot Diehl (York, PA) notched another win for Goucher, downing Brandon Ostrowski 6-2, 6-2.
However, the Royals bounced back and earned the next two wins to seal the match at No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Fujitani hit his 58th win of his career at No. 6 singles to round out the day with the Royals on top, 6-3.
