Men’s Tennis Rolls past Moravian, SUNY-Oneonta on Historic Senior Day
TOWSON, Md, - History was made by the Goucher College men’s tennis team on Sunday at home, as the Gophers honored the four members of their Senior class in style with convincing victories over Moravian (9-0) and SUNY-Oneonta (7-2).

With the results, Goucher is now 21-4 overall and finish the Landmark Conference regular season with a perfect 7-0 record.
The Gophers, who clinched the number one seed in the upcoming Landmark playoffs yesterday, have now won more matches in a season than any team in Landmark Conference history, besting the mark set by the Gophers in the 2015-16 season (20 wins).
Goucher 9, Moravian 0 | Results
First, against Moravian, the Gophers rolled to a shutout victory after honoring the four members of their senior class: Jake Brazeau (Greenville, S.C.), Josh Goldberg (Centreville, Md.), Jack Hodges (London, England), and Britton Shortle (Winter Park, Fla.).
In doubles, Hodges and partner Tetsuya Ota (Winter Park, Fla.) coasted to an 8-2 win, while at number two, Brazeau and Goldberg were just as dominant, taking an 8-1 win. It was more of the same at number three doubles, as Shortle and first-year Daniel Kim (Arlington, Mass.) were 8-0 winners.
Singles play saw Hodges (6-1, 6-3 at number one), Goldberg (6-3, 6-4 at number four), Shortle (6-1, 6-1 at number five) and Brazeau (6-1, 7-6 (10-5) at number six) all became two-time winners in the match with victories.
Elsewhere, sophomore Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va.) was a straight set victor at number two (6-2, 6-0), as was junior Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.) at number three (6-0, 6-0).
Goucher 7, SUNY Oneonta 2 | Results
In the SUNY Oneonta match, the Gophers made history as a team, as did Hodges in doubles action.
With his 8-2 win with Ota at number one doubles, Hodges won his 60th doubles match all-time at Goucher, which is not only a new school record but a new Landmark Conference record, as well. Hodges passes current assistant coach Seth Hoesman (2012-16) with his 60th doubles victory.
Elsewhere in doubles, sophomores Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) and Frankie Mullinix (Washington, D.C.) were 8-3 victors, while Dumas and Diehl completed the doubles sweep for Goucher with an 8-2 win.
In singles action, Hodges won his 60th all-time singles match to put Goucher up 4-0 at number two (6-1, 6-1), while Ota was a straight set winner at number one to clinch the win for the Gophers (6-2, 6-0).
The Gophers' other two victories on the day came at number four, where Mullinix was a three-set winner (6-4, 0-6, 10-7) and number five, where Dumas was a 6-1, 6-0 victor.
The Goucher College men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Wilkes for their 2018 regular season finale. Action begins at 3 p.m.
