Goucher Men's Tennis Shines Indoors With 6-3 Win Against Moravian
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – It weather in Allentown was an issue, but that did not stop Goucher College from shining against Moravian College. Forced indoors because of the weather, the Gophers defeated the Greyhounds 6-3 in Landmark Conference men's tennis action on Sunday.
The winning formula for this weekend, and most of the season, is posting wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, and victories at the Top-4 spots in singles.
The 2019 All-Landmark Conference second-team duo of Omosesan Adebamgbe (Philadelphia, Pa./Lower Merion) and Slade Dumas (Great Falls, Va./Dominion) has won three of its four matches by a score of 8-0 including Sunday against Moravian.
Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Brian Kane (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Select) have created a formidable No. 2 doubles team and earned its fourth win of the season, 8-4.
Dumas improved to 24-1 in his career in league singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. The senior moved into sole possession of second place on the program's all-time career singles list with 63 wins. Dumas can tie Midiori Futijani's program record of 64 wins at the Catholic University of America on Wednesday.
Adebamgbe earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, while Kane earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Kane improves to 11-0 all-time against conference teams, and Adebamgbe is 5-1 in league matches.
The best match of the day came at No. 4 singles when Cerpa rallied to win a three-set thriller. After losing the first-set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5), the freshman won the second set 6-1 to force a third set. Cerpa took the third set, 10-7, to improve to 3-1 on the year.
Alex Dominguez (Healdsburg, Calif./Healdsburg) and Joshua Pluard (Kannapolis, N.C./A. L. Brown) lost at No. 3 doubles, while Pluard fell 6-0, 6-0 to No. 5 singles, and Dominguez dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match at No. 6 singles.
Goucher continues its three-game road trip at Catholic on Wednesday. Match time is 3 p.m. from the nation's capital.
