Gophers Fall to NJCU in Home Opener

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting New Jersey City University swept doubles as it went on to post a 7-2 non-conference men's tennis victory over Goucher College at the Schroedl Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
- NJCU (4-4) pulled out tiebreak wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles over Goucher (0-4).
- At No. 3, Gabe Naftoly (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy) and Theo Lucke (Ahlen, Germany / Städtisches Gymnasium Ahlen) fell 8-7 (8-6).
- Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Tadeo Asprella (La Plata, Argentina / Instituto Jose Manuel Estrada) dropped an 8-7 (8-6) decision at No. 2.
- The Gothic Knights were 8-0 winners at No. 1.
- After NJCU won the first two completed singles matches, Asprella recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 for the Gophers' first point.
- Cerpa fell in a 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 match at No. 2.
- Naftoly prevailed in three sets at No. 4, posting a 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 win.
- Naftoly and Asprella each improved to 3-1 this spring.
- Goucher heads to Florida for spring break and faces Oglethorpe at the USTA facility in Orlando on Tuesday.
- The Gophers are back home Saturday, April 1 against Drew in a rematch of last season's Landmark Conference final.
