Gophers Outrun Greyhounds in Landmark Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Goucher College men's tennis team opened Landmark Conference play with a 6-3 win over Moravian University at Hoffman Courts Sunday afternoon.
- Goucher (2-7, 1-0 Landmark) took a 2-1 lead over Moravian (9-4, 0-2) after doubles.
- Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) and Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) picked up an 8-7 (7-3) victory at No 1 doubles.
- At No. 2, Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) and Tadeo Asprella (La Plata, Argentina / Instituto Jose Manuel Estrada) were 8-4 victors.
- After the Greyhounds tied the match with a win at No. 1, Nguyen pulled out a three set (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) win at No. 2.
- Beam won 6-4, 2-6, 4-3 at No. 3 after his opponent retired.
- Asprella clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4.
- Gabe Naftoly (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy) also was vicxtorious on the afternoon, prevailing 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
- Asprella improved to 6-3 in singles play this spring.
- The Gophers are back home Saturday, April 1 against Drew in a rematch of last season's Landmark Conference final.
