Gophers Sweep Blue Jays, Remain Unbeaten in Landmark

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Goucher College remained unbeaten in Landmark Conference men's tennis with a 9-0 win over Elizabethtown College at Alumni Courts Tuesday afternoon.
- Goucher (4-7, 3-0 Landmark) posted a pair of 8-0 wins as it swept doubles from Etown (0-8, 0-5).
- Tadeo Asprella (La Plata, Argentina / Instituto Jose Manuel Estrada) and Angel Cerpa (El Paso, Texas/Americas) were 8-0 winners at No. 2.
- Gabe Naftoly (Newburyport, Mass./Berwick Academy) and Theo Lucke (Ahlen, Germany/Städtisches Gymnasium Ahlen) recorded an 8-0 win at No. 3.
- Jackson Beam (Knightdale, N.C./Knightdale) and Calis Nguyen (Houston, Texas/School of the Woods) were 8-3 victors at No. 1.
- Nguyen put the Gophers up 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2.
- Beam clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3.
- Cerpa needed a tiebreaker in his first set before dispatching his opponent at No. 1 7-6 (7-1), 6-0.
- Goucher dropped just one set at the 4,5 and 6 flights as Asprella, Naftoly and Lucke all won.
- Asprella, Beam and Naftoly each won their fourth straight singles match, while Nguyen captured his third in a row.
- Goucher won its ninth straight match against Elizabethtown.
- Goucher is slated to travel to Harford Community College for a 3 pm non-conference match Thursday afternoon.
- The Gophers return home Saturday, April 8, hosting Drew in a rematch of the 2022 Landmark championship match at 1 pm at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
