Falk Clears 6' on First Attempt to Place First in High Jump
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — A long-distance runner and a jumper representing Goucher both placed first in an event today at the Orange & Maroon Classic.
The two first-place performances were by junior Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) in the 5,000-meter run and freshman Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) in the high jump.
Only one individual in the history of Goucher's indoor track and field program has posted a faster time in the 5000 than the 15:45.64 Negreann turned in today to beat the other nine entrants across the finish line.
Falk's winning height in the high jump was 6-feet, which he cleared on his first attempt.
Negreann wasn't the only Goucher runner to record the second-fastest all-time time in program history in an event today. The others who did it were senior Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) in the mile run, freshman Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) in the 800-meter run and freshman Brian Gautier (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) in the 400-meter dash.
Scipione completed the mile in 4:48.25, good for seventh place. His time was less than 3.9 seconds shy of the indoor school record, which he set during the 2009-10 season.
Browne placed ninth overall in the 800 and his time of 2:04.76 is only 16-hundredths of a second off a school record that hasn't been seriously threatened since it was established more than 10 years ago.
Gauttier broke the indoor school record in the 400 back on December 4 when he completed the event in :54.02 at the Bow-Tie Track & Field Classic. His time today was :54.44, which landed him in 13th place.
