Gophers Earn Points in Three Events, Still Finish in 10th Place
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — Senior Chris Litz (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) shattered his own indoor school record in the pole vault and a pair of freshmen turned in the top performances in the high jump and the 400-meter dash in the history of Goucher's indoor track and field program at today's Bow-Tie Track & Field Classic.
Litz cleared 15-feet, 1-inch to win the pole vault competition and add 13 inches to the indoor school record in that event. He didn't even make his first attempt until the other 17 competitors had all been eliminated and then was successful on his first try at 14-feet and his second chance at 15-1 before going out at 15-5.
Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) broke the indoor school record in the high jump by clearing 6-feet, 2-inches, good for second place. Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea), who held the record that Falk eclipsed, placed third at 6-feet.
Evans also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash by turning in a time of :24.87, the second-fastest for that event in program history.
Brian Gautier (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.) set a new indoor school record in the 400 by crossing the finish line in :54.02, which put him in ninth place.
Although they were able to earn points in only three events, the Gophers finished in 10th place with a total of 27 points.
