Negreann Crosses Finish Line First in 5,000 Meters
CARLISLE, Pa. — Goucher scored points in eight different events today at the DuCharme Invitational, highlighted by a first-place finish by Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) in the 5,000-meter run.
Goucher's Entry in 4 x 1600 Relay Breaks School Record
CARLISLE, Pa. — Goucher scored points in eight different events today at the DuCharme Invitational, highlighted by a first-place finish by Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) in the 5,000-meter run.
Negreann's winning time in the 5,000 was 15:36.51. In addition to the 10 points the senior earned for placing first, the Gophers got an additional three points in the event thanks to Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School), who placed sixth overall (19:14.98).
Negreann and Manta both ran on Goucher's entry in the 4 x 1,600-meter relay that finished in fourth place, but set a new school record with its time of 19:25.06. The other two runners were Mark Egan (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and Andrew Southworth (Durham, N.H./Oyster River).
The Gophers picked up points in two other relays: six points out of the foursome of Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point), Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat Twp.), Manuel Carranza (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) and Will Evans III (Baltimore, Md./Overlea), which placed third in the 4 x 200 meters (1:39.31) and four points in the 4 x 400 where Carranza, Byrum, Joel Brandis (Portland, Ore./Grant) and Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) posted a combined time of 3:39.05, good for fifth place.
Falk placed fourth overall in the high jump competition by clearing 5'9.25" and Brandis posted a jump of 20'5.75" to hold onto seventh place in the long jump competition.
Browne took sixth place in the 400-meter run (:52.96).
Lovell Kosh (Chester, Pa./Christiana) placed eighth by tossing the shot put 38'10.5".
With a team score of 39 points, the Gophers ended up in ninth place in the team standings.
