ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Goucher's Shannon Sanders Jr. (Nashville, Tenn./University School of Nashville) was the first to cross the finish line in the 400-meter dash at today's Muhlenberg Invitational.
Sanders' winning time of :54.24, which was 41-hundredths of a second faster than runner-up Max Suitovsky from Muhlenberg, is the sixth-fastest for that event in the history of the school's indoor track and field program.
The only three Goucher runners who have posted faster times in the 400 dash are current teammate Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers), Manuel Carranza and Brian Gautier. Browne holds the school record of :51.74, which he set at the 2012 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships.
The Gophers also took eighth place in two events today. In the mile run, Isaac Jennings (Narberth, Pa./Harriton) landed in the No. 8 position among the 13 entrants by turning in a time of 4:54.54; in the shot put competition, an effort of 6.85 meters (22' 5 3/4") by Christian Ribeiro (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) allowed him to claim eighth place.
