Negreann Crosses Finish Line First at Metro Meet

Goucher's First Metro Champion Since Olenick in 2000
COCKEYSVILLE, Md. — By running the fastest time for a 5,000-meter race in the history of Goucher's men's cross country program, junior Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) captured first place in a field of 59 runners at today's Baltimore Metro Meet conducted at Oregon Ridge Park.
Negreann, who placed fourth overall in this meet a year ago as a sophomore, was clocked at 16:07.64 and finished more than nine seconds ahead of the runner-up, Nick Kisley from Johns Hopkins (16:07.64).
Goucher hadn't produced an individual champion at the annual Metro Meet since a first-place performance by Jeff Olenick in 2000 and it was the second individual title of Negreann's career with the first being at the 2009 Catholic Invitational.
The next Goucher runner to cross the finish line following Negreann was senior Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) in 26th place with a time of 17:58.03. Sophomore Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) placed 35th overall (18:34.38) and freshmen Zach Coto (Newburgh, N.Y./Oakwood Friends School) and Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) were 39th (19:10.02) and 40th (19:14.01), respectively.
In the team scoring, the Gophers finished third with 88 points, only two points behind Morgan St. Johns Hopkins took first place with a score of 20 points. McDaniel (102 points) was fourth, Stevenson (111) fifth and Coppin St. (116) sixth.
