Gophers Share Sixth Place at Achtzehn Classic

Scipione Turns in PR, Completing 8K in 28:33.61 for 13th Place
MT. WOLF, Pa. — Senior Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) was the first Goucher runner to cross the finish line today at the Coach Achtzehn Classic.
Scipione completed the 8,000-meter race in a personal-best time of 28:33.61, good for 13th place.
Sophomore Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) also finished the race in under 30 minutes as he was clocked at 29:55.60 and placed 26th overall in a field of 72 runners.
After Manta, the next three Goucher runners to come in were freshmen Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) in 31st place (30:18.27), Zach Coto (Newburgh, N.Y./Oakwood Friends School) in 37th place (30:36.39) and Hugh Geller (Devens, Mass./Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School) in 44th place (31:33.36). All three were running the first competitive 8,000-meter race of their careers.
The individual champion was Ryan Bell from Franklin & Marshall. His winning time was 27:00.27.
F&M also placed first in the team scoring with 30 points. York was second with 54 points and St. Mary's (Md.) was third with 99. With a team score of 138 points, Goucher ended up in a tie with Stevenson for sixth place.
