Negreann Seizes One of Olenick's Spots in Top 20

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — No longer does the same individual possess the all-time top 20 times for an 8,000-meter race in the history of Goucher's men's cross country program.
Today, running on the same course that will be used in November for the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional, junior Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) placed ninth in a field of 198 runners at the Mideast Regional Preview Meet by completing the race in 26:33. That time ranks 18th in program history for an 8K and the other 19 that make up the all-time top 20 were performed by Jeff Olenick (1997-2000).
Seniors Dan Addis and Nate Bussiere from Carnegie Mellon placed 1-2 in the race and were seaparated at the finish by just two seconds. Addis' winning time was 25:41.
The second Goucher runner to complete the race was senior Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole), who was clocked at 29:10 and placed 90th overall. Following Scipione were freshman Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) in 126th place (29:57), sophomore Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) in 130th place (30:08) and freshman Zach Coto (Newburgh, N.Y./Oakwood Friends School) in 152nd place (30:53).
Carnegie Mellon, which finished with a team score of 33 points, beat out Oberlin (52 points) for the team championship. Case Western Reserve (90) was third. Out of a total of 16 teams which had at least five runners, Goucher wound up in 12th place with a score of 345 points.
