Negreann Finishes 3.4 Seconds Behind Moravian Runner
TOWSON, Md. — Junior Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) became the first male runner from Goucher to earn first-team All-Landmark Conference honors when he crossed the finish line in second place at today's Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Championship.
First Goucher Male to Earn Spot on All-Landmark First Team
TOWSON, Md. — Junior Joey Negreann (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) became the first male runner from Goucher to earn first-team All-Landmark Conference honors when he crossed the finish line in second place at today's Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Championship.
Moravian's Matt Lutcza finished the 8,000-meter race over the rural terrain of the Goucher campus 3.4 seconds ahead of Negreann in first place. Lutcza's winning time of 26:46.4 is a new record for the course.
Negreann's time of 26:49.8, which is also faster than the former record, is the 20th fastest all-time in the history of Goucher's men's cross country program for a race of that distance.
Third place went to Susquehanna's David Haklar (27:00.3).
The top seven finishers make up the All-Landmark first team; the next seven are second-team performers.
Goucher's Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) just missed earning all-conference honors as he placed 16th overall. The senior completed the race in 28:16.6.
The next two runners for the Gophers to come in after Scipione were sophomore Nick Manta (North Wales, Pa./Abington Friends School) in 48th place (30:03.5) and freshman Zach Coto (Newburgh, N.Y./Oakwood Friends School) in 50th place (30:50.4). The fifth runner to figure in Goucher's team score 0f 143 points was freshman Troy Browne (Springdale, Md./C.H. Flowers) in 55th place (30:15.2).
Susquehanna captured its fourth consecutive Landmark Conference title in the sport of men's cross country as the Crusaders had five runners among the top 12 finishers for a team score of 38 points. Juniata was second with 61 points, Moravian third with 70 and Scranton fourth with 100. After Goucher came the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (165 points) in sixth, Drew (196) in seventh and Catholic (199) in eighth.
