Scipione Earns Distinction as Senior Scholar Athlete
MADISON, N.J. — Goucher's Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) is being recognized as the 2010 Senior Scholar Athlete for the sport of men's cross country in the Landmark Conference.
Landmark Conference's Most Exclusive Award for Academics
MADISON, N.J. — Goucher's Adam Scipione (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) is being recognized as the 2010 Senior Scholar Athlete for the sport of men's cross country in the Landmark Conference.
A recipient of the conference's most exclusive academic award must carry a minimum GPA of 3.20 and criteria for selection includes accomplishments in all areas of college life, including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. A committee of conference officers, athletic directors and sports information directors selects one Senior Scholar Athlete per academic year for each of the 20 sports for which the Landmark Conference crowns a champion.
The first six recpients for 2010-11 were announced today. In addition to Scipione, the Senior Scholar Athletes for the fall sports are:
Women's Cross Country — Tara Chiarella, Moravian
Field Hockey — Eliza Grumbein, Catholic
Men's Soccer — Lane Gould, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Women's Soccer — Chelsea Paskman, Scranton
Volleyball — Steph Strauss, Juniata
Scipione, who is majoring in philosophy and business management, attained a 3.73 cumulative overall GPA through six semesters at Goucher. He was one of the institution's four representatives on the 2010 Winter Landmark All-Academic Team and the 2010 Fall Landmark All-Academic Team, and has served as a panelist for a program designed to encourage high school athletes to make healthy choices in athletics and in competition.
Scipione finished in 16th place at the 2010 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Championship, completing the 8,000-meter race in 28:16.6.
