NEW ORLEANS — Each of Goucher’s track & field teams were bestowed All-Academic Team recognition by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association today, with the men’s team’s grade-point average of 3.53 ranking them third-highest among all Division III men’s programs in the country.
To qualify for the award, programs must have a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or higher, with every student-athlete who participated in the indoor and/or outdoor season contributing towards that total.
The Goucher men, who have now received the honor for three straight years, were one of 93 programs recognized across Division III. Only Principia (3.63) and Amherst (3.55) registered a higher team GPA than the Gophers.
The women, meanwhile, have now earned the award in each of the nine years since its creation after combining for a team grade-point average of 3.26 in the 2013-14 academic year. A total of 158 women’s teams in Division III were honored, led once again by Principia (3.75).
Among Landmark institutions, Goucher and new 2014-15 member Elizabethtown were the only two schools to have its men’s and women’s programs recognized. The women’s teams from Moravian and Susquehanna also earned a spot on the list.
