Gopher Women Take Three Firsts Against Etown, Immaculata
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College swimming teams competed in a tri-meet against Elizabethtown College and Immaculata University Saturday afternoon at von Borries Aquatic Center. The Gopher women split, besting Immaculata 140-94 and falling to Etown 159-87.
Goucher's men dropped decisions to Immaculata (134-55) and Etown (208-32).
Ella Robinson (Canajoharie, N.Y. / Canajoharie) captured first place in the 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 12:18.38 as well as winning the 100-yard breaststroke for the second straight week in a time of 1:14.94. Robinson also finished second in the 50-yard breaststroke (34.47).
The Gopher women took three of the top four places in the 50-yard backstroke, with Darcy McFarland (East Hampton, N.Y. / East Hampton) posting a time of 31.40 seconds to take first. Kelci Wood (Spencer, Ind. / Owen Valley) was second at 31.91, while Hal Stewart (Chesapeake, Va. / Indian River) took fourth, checking in with a 35.52-second swim. Wood also finished third in the 50 free (27.46), placing behind teammate Olivia Reichardt (Monument, Colo. / Palmer) who was second at 27.34 seconds.
McFarland took third in the 100 free with a time of 1:01.31, while Reichardt placed second in the 50 fly with a 29.52-second effort.
Alejandra Berry-Ruiz (New Haven, Conn. / Amity) placed second in the 100 butterfly, recording a time of 1:08.05, and also finished third in the 50 fly with a 29.99-second mark. Jamie Damm (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) took third in the 100 backstroke at 1:15.97.
Caitlin Cunningham (Schwenksville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley) placed third in the 500 free with a time of 6:36. The 200 freestyle relay team of Wood, Barry-Ruiz, Reichardt and Robinson placed second at 1:49.73 to round out the afternoon.
For the men, Jackson Penner (Newille, Pa. / Big Spring) finished second in the 50 free (23.57) and also took fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 30.56 seconds and in the 50 fly (27.45).
Richie Bialik (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown) was fourth in the 200 free (2:03.62).
The Goucher swim teams return to action next Saturday, hosting Juniata in a 1 pm dual meet at the von Borries Aquatic Center.
