Robinson Paces Gopher Swim Teams at Catholic
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Goucher College swim teams were in action against Catholic University on the road Saturday. The Cardinals posted a 210-45 win on the women's side and prevailed 215-17 in the men's competition.
Ella Robinson (Canajoharie, N.Y. / Canajoharie) took first place in the women's 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.62. She also finished second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.29 seconds and in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:34.75 effort.
Darcy McFarland (East Hampton, N.Y. / East Hampton) placed third in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.47.
The Gophers placed third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:05.62 laid down by McFarland, Kelci Wood (Spencer, Ind. / Owen Valley), Alejandra Barry-Ruiz (New Haven, Conn. / Amity) and Jamie Damm (Middletown, Md. / Middletown). Wood, Damm, Barry-Ruiz and Robinson were third in the 400 freestyle relay with a 4:12.64 effort.
The men's 400 relay team of Richie Bialik (New City, N.Y. / Clarkstown), Liam McDonald (Cary, N.C. / Saint Francis), Sean Swanson (Los Angeles, Calif. / New Roads) and Jackson Penner (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) were third with a time of 4:04.39.
Penner was fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.64. Bialik placed fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:43.87.
Goucher is back in action next Saturday when it travels to Salisbury for a 1 pm meet. The Gophers return home on Saturday, January 22 when they host Drew in the final remaining home meet of the season.
