Gophers Complete Day One at Landmark Swim Championships
BOYDS, Md. - The Goucher College men's and women's swim teams wrapped up the first day of competition at the Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday at the Germantown Aquatics Center. The Gopher men sit sixth with 53 points, while the women are eighth with 28 points.
The Gopher women picked up all of their day one points in the 200 freestyle relay in which it placed fifth with a time of 1:44.50. The relay consisted of Ella Robinson (Canajoharie, N.Y./Canajoharie), Darcy McFarland (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton), Olivia Reichardt (Monument, Colo./Palmer) and Kelci Wood (Spencer, Ind./Owen Valley).
Robinson missed qualifying for the B final in the 500 freestyle by 0.76 seconds, coming in 18th overall at 5:39.89.
The Goucher men's 200 freestyle relay placed sixth with a time of 1:44.05. Swimming the relay for the Gophers were Jackson Penner (Newville, Pa./Big Spring), Sean Swanson (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads), Liam McDonald (Cary, N.C./St. Francis) and Richie Bialik (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown).
The same relay squad placed sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:30.85.
McDonald qualified for the B final in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:48.20, just off his personal best of 2:47.84 set at the 2020 Landmark Championship.
Day two of the Landmark Championship gets underway at 10 am Saturday with preliminaries in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
