Camodeca Steps Down for New Role, Klopcic Named Head Coach
TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College's Head Coach, Erick Camodeca, announced that he will be stepping away from coaching to pursue a new career at the college. Camodeca has been named the Director of Athletic Philanthropy at Goucher College, his alma mater. He begins his new role on June 2nd.
"After graduating from and leaving Goucher to begin my head coaching career, I always said wanted to come back and close out my coaching career at Goucher. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to have been able to do so while receiving so much support all along the way.
I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished in a short period of time and where the program is at and heading. Stepping away after finishing with a National Runner Up, a 3rd place finisher, and finishing in the Top 20 at NCAA Championships is a great ending .
As Coach Caslin supported me as one his former athletes taking over the program, I am excited to do the same for JT. In my new role as Athletics Philanthropy Gift Officer, I am excited to bring my passion for Goucher and continue to drive the department forward."
"We appreciate everything that Coach Camodeca has done for our athletic department and the cross-country and track and field teams. His passion for Goucher has brought to the track and field program to new heights with multiple All-Americans and a top 20 finish at nationals. We wish him the best of luck in his new role with advancement at Goucher and are excited to continue to work with him to develop and grow the Goucher Blue and Gold Society." Said Interim Athletic Director, Bryan Laut.
In his six seasons as the track and field head coach, and fourth season as the cross country head coach, Camodeca has led the team to numerous accomplishments. This includes numerous Landmark Rookie of the Years, Landmark Track and Field Performer of the Years, and wrapped up the year with two All-American's in the outdoor NCAA Track and Field Championships.
In his place, JT Klopcic has been named the Head Coach of both programs. This comes after serving as the Associate Head Coach of both programs after returning to Goucher in 2022. Klopcic has worked primarily with mid-distance and distance runners in the programs. He currently has numerous track and field/cross country certifications, including USA Track & Field Level 1 Coaching. Prior to returning to Goucher, Klopcic served as the Director of Academics and Student Development at Bradley.
Laut stated, "We are extremely fortunate to have a highly talented and motivated individual to take over the cross country and track and field programs. JT's attention to details in his coaching is second to none as evidenced in his strong involvement with multiple All-Americans and helping to create a top 20 program at the national championship meet this spring. We are excited to see the impact he can have on the whole roster with his promotion to Head Coach."
