McFadden, Williams Reach Double Figures in Setback at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. - Seniors Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md. / Montgomery Blair) and Anise Williams (West Palm Beach, Fla. / The Benjamin School) each scored 12 points in the Goucher College women's basketball team's 75-34 setback at Shenandoah University Saturday evening.
- Goucher (0-2) took a 3-1 lead on a McFadden three a minute into the game.
- Shenandoah (1-0) scored the next 11 points to build a nine-point cushion, 12-3.
- A basket by Williams at the 3:18 mark stopped the Hornet run.
- Shenandoah led 21-8 after one quarter.
- Goucher's first field goal came midway through the quarter on a McFadden three that made it 30-13.
- The Gophers trailed 36-16 at halftime following a driving layup by Williams in the waning seconds of the half.
- Claire Flynn (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) knocked down a three just over a minute into the second half.
- Shenandoah opened a 53-24 lead through 30 minutes after Williams sank a pair of free throws at the end of the period.
- McFadden drained her third three-pointer of the game with just under eight minutes remaining.
- The senior also had a conventional three-point play with 4:57 to go.
- Shenandoah shot 50.9% from the floor while the Gophers made 10 of their 50 field goal attempts.
- Goucher was 4-14 from behind the arc.
- The Gophers generated more trips to the free throw line for the second straight game, going 10-19 while the Hornets were 6-15 at the stripe.
- Goucher held a 13-8 offensive rebound advantage but was outrebounded overall 40-34.
- McFadden knocked down three of her five three-point attempts and narrowly missed a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds.
- Williams was 4-8 from the floor and also added four steals.
- Goucher is back in action on Friday when it hosts Hiram in the first round of the Renie Amoss Memorial Tip-Off Classic. Game time at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center is 5:30 pm.
