Gophers Make Late Push Against Moravian

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College women's basketball team placed three players in double figures and outscored Moravian 23-10 in the fourth quarter, but the Greyhounds recorded a 66-56 Landmark Conference victory Sunday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- After Moravian (6-12, 4-3 Landmark) took a 3-0 lead on the opening possession of the game, Goucher (1-15, 0-8) scored six straight points to go up 6-3 on a basket by Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) with 8:21 left in the first.
- The Greyhounds scored six straight points to go up 8-6 at the 6:26 mark.
- Belle Carini (Haddam, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) knocked down a three with 4:53 remaining to put the Gophers up 9-8.
- Moravian scoored the final six points of the quarter to take a 14-9 lead through one.
- Quarles converted two free throws 40 seconds in to cut Moravian's lead to three.
- After the guests increased their lead to seven, 19-13, Goucher cut the lead to four twice, the second on two Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) free throws at 4:28 that made it 21-17.
- Leading 25-20 with just under two minutes to go, Moravian ended the half on a 7-2 run to take a 10-point lead, 32-22, into halftime.
- Moravian scored the first four points of the third before a Carini basket made it 36-24 41 seconds into the frame.
- The Gophers cut the lead to 11, 38-27, at the 8:31 mark on a Haggins three.
- Up 45-31, the Greyhounds scored eight straight points to push the lead to 22 with just over two minutes left in the period.
- The guests held a 56-33 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
- Moravian took its largest lead of the game, 64-38, with 5:41 left.
- A basket by Quarles with just over five minutes left sparked a 14-0 run for the Gophers over the next three-plus minutes.
- A field goal by Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) with 1:59 left pulled Goucher within 12, 64-52.
- After the Greyhounds made two free throws, Quarles sank two at the line with 41 seconds to go.
- A basket by Carini in the final seconds accounted for the final as the Gophers outscored Moravian 23-10 in the fourth.
- Quarles posted her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards. The 14 rebounds were a season high and one shy of her career high.
- Cavoli recorded a career-best 13 points, going 6-12 from the floor.
- Carini also finished with 13 points while grabbing seven rebounds.
- Haggins added nine points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) notched six points and eight rebounds.
- The Gophers shot 30.4% overall, were 3-12 behind the arc and 11-14 at the free throw line.
- Moravian, which outrebounded Goucher 50-42, was 36.7% overall, 3-12 from three and 19-30 at the stripe.

- Goucher is back in action Wednesday night, traveling to Elizabethtown for a 7 pm Landmark Conference game.
- The Gophers return home on Saturday, February 12, hosting Susquehanna for a 4 pm contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Spectators are currently not permitted at Goucher home sporting events.
