Quarles Registers Double-Double in Susquehanna Setback

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Susquehanna University never trailed as the River Hawks recorded a 77-39 Landmark Conference women's basketball triumph over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Susquehanna (12-10, 4-8 Landmark) scored the game's first six points.
- Goucher (1-19, 0-12) got on the board via two Kyani Quarles (Houston Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) free throws 1:56 into the game.
- Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) had the first Gopher field goal of the game that made it 10-3 at the 6:39 mark.
- Leading 15-7 after a Quarles three-point play with 4:46 left in the first, the River Hawks closed on a 15-2 run to lead 30-9 after 10 minutes.
- Belle Carini (Haddam, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) had the first field goal of the second 32 seconds in.
- SU rattled off 12 straight points and held the Gophers without another field goal until a jumper by Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) 2:52 before halftime.
- The River Hawks led 48-15 at halftime.
- Goucher scored the first five points of the second half with two free throws by McFadden at the 8:38 mark making it 48-20.
- Susquehanna embarked on an 11-0 run before a three by McFadden at the 5:38 mark.
- The guests held a 68-26 lead with 10 minutes to go.
- Goucher had an 8-0 run that featured six straight points by Carini, including two free throws with 2:54 left.
- Quarles led off the run with a field goal.
- Carini's jumper with just under a minute left capped the Goucher scoring.
- Quarles registered a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, with 11 of her rebounds coming on the offensive end. Her 14 boards matched a season high. She was 8-11 at the free throw line.
- Carini led the Gophers in scoring with 13 points while also grabbing seven rebounds.
- McFadden finished with nine points.
- Goucher shot 18% overall and was 14-21 from the free throw line and 1-2 from long range.
- Susquehanna shot 48.4% from the floor, 7-28 from three and 10-14 at the stripe. The River Hawks held a 55-35 rebounding edge.
