Arcadia Outlasts Gophers to Close Renie Amoss Tip-Off

TOWSON, Md. - Kyani Quarles (Houston, Texas/Cristo Rey Jesuit) posted her second straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds but the Goucher College women's basketball team was outlasted by Arcadia University as it posted a 58-47 win to close out the 2022 Renie Amoss Tip-Off Classic at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center Saturday.
- Goucher (1-2) opened a 7-0 lead 3:38 into the game following a basket by Briyah Haggins (Waldorf, Md./Westlake).
- After Arcadia (3-0) hit its first three of the game, a Haggins basket at the 4:07 mark pushed the lead to eight, 11-3.
- The Knights closed within 11-6 by the end of the quarter.
- Arcadia opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 16-11 lead at the 7:11 mark.
- Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) halted the run with a three with 6:38 left in the half.
- Seven straight points by the guests made it a 23-14 game with 4:37 to go.
- Arcadia took a 29-22 lead into intermission.
- Claire Flynn (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) hit a three 1:19 into the third to cut the lead to four.
- After Arcadia got the lead to nine, a three-point play by Quarles at the 5:24 mark put the lead back down to five, 37-32.
- The guests led 45-34 with just under a minute to go and entered the final frame holding a 45-36 advantage after a late layup by Kyla Smith (Easton, Pa./Easton).
- A three-point play by Arcadia's Hanna Rhoades with 7:17 left made it a 48-36 gsame.
- Goucher got the lead down to seven, 54-47, following a 5-0 spurt capped by a Haggins three with 3:02 to go.
- The Knights held the Gophers scoreless the rest of the way to remain unbeaten.
- Quarles finished 4-6 from the floor and 5-7 at the free throw line en route to her second straight double-double.
- Haggins scored a season-best 13 points and also grabbed six rebounds.
- Smith added 12 points and nine rebounds.
- Cavoli knocked down a pair of three-pointers and finished with six points.
- Goucher shot 31% overall, 5-15 from three and 6-10 at the free throw line, while Arcadia shot 44% overall and connected on nine of its 20 three-point attempts.
- The Gophers outrebounded the Knights 38-32, including 15-6 on the offensive glass.
- Goucher is on the road Wednesday night, traveling to Stevenson for a 6 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home on Wednesday, November 30, hosting Gallaudet at 6 pm at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
