Three Reach Double Figures for Gophers at No. 23 Etown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Goucher College women's basketball team had three players reach double figures in scoring, but Elizabethtown College, ranked No. 23 in the WBCA Division III Top 25, outscored the Gophers 48-30 in the second half for an 84-55 Landmark Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium.
- Etown (15-1, 5-1 Landmark) jumped out to a 9-0 lead 3:44 into the game.
- Alexis Kuhlman (Mount Airy, Md./Herndon) hit a three at the 5:46 mark for Goucher's (3-14, 0-6) first points of the game.
- After being down 14, a three by Alayna McFadden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) cut the lead to 11, 19-8, with 1:58 on the clock.
- The Blue Jays pushed the lead to 16, 26-10, at the end of the quarter.
- Elizabethtown took its largest first half lead, 33-13, on a three-pointer 1:44 into the quarter.
- Goucher held the Blue Jays to just a field goal and a free throw the rest of the period and scoreless in the final 2:51 of the half as it closed on a 12-3 run.
- A Kendra Lawrence (Hackensack, N.J./Immaculate Conception) layup with just over two minutes left made it 36-24, and a late McFadden free throw made it 36-25 at the break.
- The Blue Jays upped their lead to 41-26 two minutes into the second quarter.
- A 10-4 run by the Gophers capped by a basket by Kyla Smith (Easton, Pa./Easton) with 5:13 left in the quarter cut the lead to nine, 45-36.
- Etown outscored Goucher 9-2 over the final three-plus minutes of the third to open up a 61-42 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
- Kuhlman knocked down a jumper to open the fourth to cut the lead to 17.
- A 12-0 Blue Jay spurt allowed the hosts to gain a 73-44 lead with 6:35 remaining in the contest.
- A McFadden jumper with six minutes left halfted the Etown run.
- Kuhlman finished 6-13 from the floor and recorded 15 points to pace the Gophers.
- McFadden recorded a season-high 12 points, going 4-11 from the floor and making one of her two three-point attempts.
- Smith reached double figures for the 16th time in 17 games and sixth straight outing with 10 points.
- Lawrence grabbed 10 rebounds and added six points, her sixth double-digit rebounding effort of the season.
- Julia Cavoli (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) added six points.
- Goucher, which outrebounded Etown 38-33, shot 34% overall, 5-16 behind the arc and 8-15 at the free throw line.
- The Blue Jays shot 54% overall, 12-23 from long range and 8-12 at the charity stripe.
- Goucher returns home on Wednesday when it hosts Susquehanna in a 7 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
