Gophers Handled by Susquehanna in Landmark Lidlifter
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Host Susquehanna University led 31-17 after one quarter and didn't look back as it went on to a 109-60 Landmark Conference women's basketball win over Goucher College Wednesday evening at Houts Gymnasium. It marked the Landmark opener for both schools.
The River Hawks (3-2, 1-0 Landmark) led 31-17 after 10 minutes and opened up a 56-29 lead at the break against the Gophers (0-6, 0-1).
Juniors Merci Turner and Maiya Villanueva paced Goucher with 15 points apiece, with Turner also grabbing nine rebounds. Villanueva knocked down three three-pointers.
Briyah Haggins also finished in double figures for the Gophers as she recorded 10 points and also grabbed nine rebounds. Brianna Johnson registered nine points for Goucher.
Goucher shot 31.9% overall, was 7-29 behind the arc and 9-20 at the free throw line. The River Hawks, who placed six players in double figures, outrebounded Goucher 54-35 and shot 53.8% overall and were 11-21 from three. SU finished 14-15 at the charity stripe.
Goucher returns home Saturday, hosting Drew University in a 4 pm Landmark Conference game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
