No. 15 Royals Ease Past Gophers For Fourth Straight
TOWSON, Md. - No. 15 University of Scranton shook off a slow start to defeat Goucher College 74-36 in Landmark Conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
Goucher (1-18, 1-11 Landmark) held an early lead and the game was tied twice before Scranton (17-2, 10-2) scored 13 straight points to build a 17-4 lead. The Gophers chipped away and a Savannah Holmes basket late cut the lead to 20-10 after one.
A Holmes basket 2:22 into the second made it 24-15 before Scranton scored the next 11 points to go up 35-15. The Royals carried a 39-20 lead into halftime and extended the lead to 57-26 through three quarters.
Merci Turner paced Goucher with 13 points, reaching double figures in scoring for the fifth straight game. Briyah Haggins totaled eight points, while Holmes finished with seven points while grabbing nine rebounds.
Goucher, which was outrebounded 56-41, shot 25% overall, was 4-27 from distance and made both of its free throw attempts. The Royals shot 37.5% overall, were 6-28 behind the arc and 8-14 at the stripe.
Goucher remains home Wednesday evening, hosting Susquehanna University in a 7 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
