Goucher Women's Golf Is Ready To Roll In Search Of First Landmark Conference Championship On Saturday
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College women's golf team looks for its first conference title at the Landmark Conference Women's Golf Championships on Saturday at the Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, N.J. The championships are only one round for the 2021 season.
Drew University will provide live statistics for the event. It marks the second time Fox Hollow Golf Club will host the championships.
The Gophers will hit the course with the University of Scranton and Susquehanna University for the championship round. Randi Marshall (La Quinta, Calif./Half Moon Bay) will be the first to tee off at 10:40 a.m. Emily Pochet (Royersford, Pa./Pennsylvania Leadership Charter) at 10:50 a.m., Emmie Starchvick (Jacksonville, Ore./South Medford) at 11 a.m., and Christina Pevey (Post, Texas/Post) at 11:10 a.m. will round out the Blue and Gold players teeing off.
Pevey has had a great spring season, and she is averaging 87.5 strokes per round in her four rounds this season. Pevey has posted rounds of 85, 88, and 85 in her last three competitions, including posting the low round at the Drew Springbrook Invitational on April 5.
Pevey, the current Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week, will be competing in her third conference championship. She finished third at the 2018 event and fifth at the 2019 competition. Pevey is averaging 91.25 strokes per round at the Landmark Conference Championships in her career. She carded an 84 in the second round of the championships in 2019.
Starchvick is averaging 91.25 strokes per round this season. She has come on in the last two events and is averaging 85.5 strokes per round in those competitions. Starchvick carded an 86 to win a dual meet against Catholic on April 10, and then she bested that total by a stroke at the Jefferson Tri-Match No. 2 with an 85 on April 14.
Starchvick will also be competing in her third conference championship after finishing fifth in 2018 and seventh in 2019. She is averaging 93.0 strokes per round at the Landmark Conference Championships. She has posted scores in the 80s in the final round of both competitions, including an 86 in 2019.
Pochet will also be playing in her third Landmark Conference Championships. She finished 27th in her first two appearances at the championships. She is averaging 102.25 strokes per round this season and has posted a round of 99 twice in 2021.
Marshall will be making her Landmark Conference Championships debut, and the sophomore is averaging 106.0 strokes per round this season. She posted a career-best round of 92 at the 2019 Landmark Conference Fall Preview.
The Gophers are coming into the championships after carding team scores of 376 in the dual meet with Catholic and the Jefferson Tri-Match No. 2. The score of 376 is the fifth-best mark in team history. The Blue and Gold won its first team event at the Elizabethtown Invitational on April 1. Pevey won her second event and Athlete of the Week honors, while Starchvick earned her first medalist honor against Catholic.
Goucher recorded a round of 369 at the 2019 Landmark Conference Championships for its best score in team history.
Gophers head coach Cameron Hollek is in his first season as the head coach of the golf program. He was an assistant coach with the two women teams that finished third at the championships. Also, Hollek was an assistant coach for the men's golf program when it won the 2018 and 2019 Landmark Conference titles.
