Goucher Women's Golf Seniors Cap Memorable Season With Program-Best Second-Place Standing At Landmark Championships
BRANCHBURG, N.J. – Christina Pevey (Post, Texas/Post), Emily Pochet (Royersford, Pa./Pennsylvania Leadership Charter), and Emmie Starchvick (Jacksonville, Ore./South Medford) are members of the first Goucher College women's golf team and made their final season one to remember. The Gophers carded its lowest score in program history with a 363 to finish second for the first time in program history at the Landmark Conference Women's Golf Championships on Saturday.
The senior trio finished third, fourth and sixth to each be named to the All-Landmark Conference first team, marking the first time in program history the Blue and Gold had three players selected to the first team. The Blue and Gold had three players named to the all-conference team in 2018, but it was two players on the first team and one on the second team.
Pochet bested her season-low score by 13 strokes and her personal-best total by seven strokes with her round of 86 to finish third, six strokes behind the medalist. The senior posted a 41 on the front nine and a 45 on the back nine thanks to eight pars, seven bogeys, two double bogeys, and one triple bogey. Pochet was selected to the All-Landmark Conference first team for the first time in her career.
While Pochet earns her first all-conference honor, Pevey has been selected to the All-Landmark Conference first team in all three championships. She finished third in 2018, fifth in 2019, and then sandwiched a fourth-place standing in-between those places in her senior season. Pevey shot a 43 on the front nine and a 45 on the back after carding seven pars, seven bogeys, two double bogeys, and a triple bogey.
Just like Pevey, Starchvick has earned all-conference recognition all three seasons, but she picked up her second first-team honor in 2021. She finished sixth after carding an 89, thanks to four pars, eight bogeys, and five double bogeys. Starchvick also notched the lone birdie for the team on the afternoon on hole 13. The senior finished fifth in 2018 to earn first-team honors and placed seventh in 2019 for second-team recognition.
Goucher was one stroke behind Catholic at the turn and finished 11 strokes behind Landmark Conference Champion Catholic with a program-record round of 363. It was the same course as the previous program-record low round of 369 set at the 2019 Landmark Conference Championships in the second round. The Gophers second-place finish was the best in program history after placing third in the first two championships. Susquehanna (369), Scranton (373), Drew (399), and Juniata rounded out the field.
Randi Marshall (La Quinta, Calif./Half Moon Bay) finished 19th with a round of 100. Marshall had three pars, five bogeys, seven double bogeys, and three triple bogeys on the afternoon. The sophomore posted a 51 on the front nine and a 49 on the back nine.
It marks the end of a remarkable season by the women's golf team and the first under first-year head coach Cameron Hollek. The Blue and Gold started the season with its first invitational win in program history at the Elizabethtown Invitational on April 1. Pevey earned her second medalist honors at the Drew Springbrook Invitational on April 5, and Starchvick was the top golfer for the first time in a dual meet with Catholic on April 10. Pevey was then named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career leading up to the conference championships.
Pevey, Pochet, Starchvick, and Lauren O'Leary (Potomac, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) are the first women's golfers to be on the roster for the first four years in program history. We want to thank the quartet for their contributions to the women's golf program and Goucher College for the last four years. They built a great foundation for the program!
