McHerron Becomes Fourth-Ever Goucher Player To Earn Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete Of The Week
BALTIMORE, Md. – Abbie McHerron (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills), a member of the Goucher College women's lacrosse team, has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week of March 2-8. It is the junior's first conference honor.
McHerron registered 16 saves, a 6.50 goals against average and a 55.2 save percentage in a 2-0 week for the Gophers. The junior made eight saves in a 15-8 win against Averett on Monday and then turned away eight shots in a 15-5 win against Neumann on Saturday for the program's first-ever win against the Knights.
She ranks fourth in the circuit with 8.49 goals against average and fifth with 31 saves. The junior also has a a 45.6 save percentage in 261.32 minutes of work.
For her career, McHerron has 141 saves, a 13.78 goals against average and a 40.3 save percentage. The team is 11-9 with McHerron in between the pipes and 10-1 when she allows 10 or fewer goals in a match.
McHerron become the fourth Gopher to earn the Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week, joining Jenny Lucey (March 9, 2009), Hannah Frallicciardi (March 11, 2013) and Emily Hill (February 24, 2014). It is the 16th time in Landmark Conference history Goucher has earned a weekly honor and the first since Shannon Stull (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) took home the award on March 4, 2019.
Goucher returns to action when the squad travels to Notre Dame University of Maryland on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
