Goucher Athletics Announces Josephine E. Fiske Gopher Pride Female Winner
BALTIMORE, Md. – Mackenzie Nase (Weare, N.H./John Stark Regional), a member of the Goucher College women's lacrosse team, has been named the Josephine E. Fiske Gopher Pride Female Award winner.
The Josephine E. Fiske Gopher Pride Award was established in 1986 and is presented annually to one male and one female student in good academic standing who play important roles in the success of their teams. Variables to be weighed in determining the recipients of this award include, but are not limited to: sportsmanship, citizenship, positive attitude, leadership and service to young adults or children.
"This award is intended for somebody that embodies good sportsmanship, positive attitude and a leader," said women's lacrosse head coach Sarah Goodson. "Mackenzie has earned the upmost respect from her teammates and coaching staff. I am so proud of you and to be your coach."
Nase was a unanimous selection for team captain as a sophomore, leads by example and one of the hardest-working players on the team according to Goodson. In addition, she works as a camp counselor at an outdoor summer camp serving as a positive role model for the campers.
This year on the field, she ranked second in draw controls (16), fifth in caused turnovers (6) and sixth in ground balls (11) on the team while also twinkling the twine three times in six games. She hauled in a career-high seven draw controls against Alvernia on February 24 and registered a pair of goals against Averett on March 2.
"I feel deeply humbled, honored and thankful to receive the Josephine E. Fiske Award for my contributions to the women's lacrosse team," said Nase.
For her career, Nase has played in 20 games including 19 starts and has 14 goals, 37 ground balls, 25 draw controls and 25 caused turnovers. The sophomore has registered a career-best two goals three times in her two years in Baltimore.
Along with Nase, also nominated for this award were equestrian freshman Celeste Fazioli (Seabrook, Texas/Clear Falls), women's soccer senior Gracie LeFevre (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) and field hockey senior Alexyss Pawlak (Huntingdon Beach, Calif./Edison).
