Gophers Fall at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. - Host Neumann University jumped out to a 6-2 lead after one quarter as it went on to post a 17-8 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Goucher College at Turf Field Saturday afternoon.
- Neumann (5-1) opened up the scoring 2:23 into the game.
- The Knights scored the first four goals before Goucher (2-7) got on the board on a Katherine Luetgens (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) goal at the 4:47 mark.
- After another Neumann goal, Katie Kebrich (Towson, Md./Towson) converted a free position shot with 36 seconds left in the quarter to make it 5-2.
- A late goal by the hosts made it 6-2 through 15 minutes.
- Neumann scored four times in a span of 6:17 of game times to build a 10-2 lead 3:30 before halftime.
- Kebrich converted a free positon in the final seconds of the half to make it 10-3 at intermission.
- Neumann scored the first goal of the second half at the 10:56 mark.
- Goucher responded with 9:04 left in the period as Luetgens scored on a man-up opportunity, with Bella McKinney (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) assisting.
- The Knights scored three more times before Molly Smith (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored with 3:23 on the clock to make it 14-5.
- The hosts extended their lead with three goals in the first 5:18 of the final quarter.
- Kebrich scored at 5:31 for the Gophers before Luetgens closed out the scoring with two goals 1:26 apart, including a man-up goal with 3:18 left.
- Neumann held a 39-17 shot advantage on the day and a 17-11 lead in draw controls.
- Luetgens finished with four goals, while Kebrich added three.
- Luetgens has a five-game goal-scoring streak while Kebrich has scored in four straight contests.
- Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) started in goal and made 10 saves in the first half. Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randlph) made five saves over the final 30 minutes.
- Luetgens led the Gophers with six draw controls, while McKinney finished with three.
- Amelia Lazzini (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) also added an assist, assisting on Luetgens' final goal of the afternoon.
- Goucher opens Landmark Conference play next Saturday, traveling to Elizabethtown for a 1 pm opening draw.
- The Gophers return home Saturday, April 1, hosting Juniata in a 1 pm conference contest at Beldon Field.
