Rangers Cruise Past Gophers
MADISON, N.J. - Drew University jumped out to an 11-2 lead after one quarter and downed Goucher College 19-2 in Landmark Conference women's lacrosse Friday evening at Ranger Stadium.
Drew (7-5, 2-1 Landmark) scored the game's first five goals before Goucher (3-10, 0-3) got on the board on DJ Howell's (Jamaica, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) free position goal 5:38 into the contest. After another Ranger goal, Bella McKinney (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) scored with 6:52 left in the first. Amelia Lazzini (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) assisted on the goal.
Drew scored the final five goals of the first quarter and shut out the Gophers the remainder of the game. The hosts led 15-2 at intermission.
Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) made three saves in the first half, while Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) turned aside seven of the 11 shots she faced in the second half.
Howell also had a team-high draw controls for Goucher. The Rangers held a 40-7 shot advantage of the night and a 17-8 lead in draw controls. Lucy Covington (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) had four draw controls.
Goucher returns home Wednesday, hosting Catholic in a 5 pm contest at Beldon Field.
