BUENA VISTA, Va. - Goucher College first year Tatiana Emeruwa recorded her first collegiate goal, but the Gophers' women's lacrosse team was felled by Southern Virginia University 15-3 Saturday afternoon at Knight Stadium.
Southern Virginia (1-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one quarter and scored the first two goals of the second. Emerura scored on an assist from Amelia Lazzini with 4:27 remaining in the first half to get the Gophers on the board. Molly Smith scored for the Gophers with 34 seconds left before halftime as SVU took a 12-2 lead into intermission.
Goucher's other goal came with 1:12 remaining as Emily Burk scored her second goal of the season on a free position goal.
Sydney Lewis made seven saves in goal for Goucher, which was outshot by Southern Virginia 30-8. Smith had three draw controls for Goucher, while Burk had two.
Goucher returns home next Saturday, March 2 when it hosts Ferrum in a 1 pm contest at Beldon Field.
