Gophers Overwhelm Previously-Unbeaten Ferrum in Second Half

TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore Katherine Luetgens scored five goals as the Gophers beat previously undefeated Ferrum College 12-5 Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Ferrum College (4-1) took the early lead, scoring just two and a half minutes into the matchup
- Camden West scored back to back goals, just over three minutes apart, to put the Gophers (1-2) ahead 2-1
- Ferrum battled back to tie the game with 4:53 remaining in the quarter
- Luetgens notched her first of the night less than a minute later, with an assist from West, putting Goucher ahead 3-2 at the end of the quarter
- Ferrum kicked off the scoring under two minutes into the quarter
- Luetgens ended the games eight minute scoring drought, with an unnassisted goal at 5:31
- Bailey Schneeman scored the final goal of the half, with 3:33 left on the clock
- The Panthers began the scoring in the second half, with a man up goal at 12:45
- Luetgens earned her third on the afternoon with an assist from Amaya Locke, just under six minutes into the quarter
- Molly Smith earned her first of the afternoon with 2:49 remaining in the quarter, to push the Gophers ahead 7-4.
- Ferrum fought back to score their final goal of the game with 2:10 on the clock
- Emily Burk joined the scoring just over a minute into the quarter, with an assist from Izzy Montenegro following a Panthers penalty
- Luetgens ended a six minute scoreless drought with an unassisted man-up goal, putting the Gophers up 9-5
- Burk notched her second of the afternoon with an assist from Luetgens at the 6:36 mark after a penalty from the Panthers
- Montenegro continued the scoring for the Gophers with an assist from Wrenn Harney on a man-up play
- Luetgens scored the final goal of the night after an assist from Makayla Batts with 1:03 remaning in the game
- Goucher outshot Ferrum 25-17, with both teams going 0-2 on free position shots
- Luetgens finished with five goals and an assit on the afternoon, West ended with two goals and an assist.
- Locke, Harney, Batts and Montenegro all earned assists on the afternoon
- Burk led the team with seven draw controls, while Smith had a team high of four ground balls
- West caused three Ferrum turnovers, while Harney and Lucy Covington had two apiece
- Sydney Lewis started in goal, earning eight saves before Kennedy Harper was subbed in during the fourth quarter to earn one save
- Goucher faces Wilson College at Beldon Field on Wednesday afternoon at 4pm.
