Bridgewater Pulls Away from Gophers in Second Half

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Host Bridgewater (Va.) College pulled away from Goucher College in the second half for a 12-4 non-conference women's lacrosse victory at the Jopson Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
- Bridgewater (3-2) got on the board 3:39 into the game on a Jenna Entsminger goal.
- Goucher (1-4) tied the game just over two minutes later on an unassisted tally by Emily Burk.
- After the Eagles went back up 38 seconds later, Burk's second goal of the game with just under four minutes left in the first tied the game 2-2.
- With just over a minute left, Bridgewater converted on a man-up opportunity to take a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes.
- The hosts scored the first two goals of the second to up their lead to 5-2 with 3:57 on the clock.
- Katherine Luetgens scored on a feed from Amelia Lazzini with 3:01 left to cut the lead to 5-3.
- Bridgewater went into intermission with its 5-3 lead.
- Entsminger scored her second goal of the game midway through the third to give Bridgewater a 6-3 lead.
- Makayla Batts scored for Goucher with 6:38 on the clock to cut the lead to 6-4.
- The Eagles scored at 5:21 and again at 1:47 to build an 8-4 advantage.
- Bridgewater scored three man-up goals in the fourth quarter to pull away, including one with seven seconds remaining.
- The Eagles outshot the Gophers 15-3 in the final frame, with Goucher goalie Sydney Lewis making six saves in the final frame.
- Lewis stopped a season-high 14 shots in goal for Goucher and also picked up three ground balls.
- Molly Smith led the Gophers with three caused turnovers, while Luetgens and Burk notched two apiece.
- Smith also picked up a team-best four ground balls.
- Bridgewater outshot Goucher 38-13, with Eagle goalie Maisen Jenkins recording nine saves.
- The hosts held an 11-9 edge in draw controls, with Burk winning four draws for Goucher and Luetgens three.
- Goucher returns home Wednesday afternoon, hosting Notre Dame Maryland for a 4 pm game at Beldon Field.
