TOWSON, Md. - In a game in which the two teams combined to take 41 shots, it was the first shot of the first half and the first shot of the second half that produced all of the damage in Goucher's 2-1 loss to Notre Dame (Md.) this afternoon.
The contest wasn't even a minute old when Kelly Mattingly set up Stephani Jones to take the first shot and put the Gators (2-6) ahead 1-0.
The Gophers (3-5) drew even on an unassisted goal by Dee Moser (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) at 33:57. It was the senior midfielder's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Jones also took the first shot of the second half and broke the 1-1 tie by scoring an unassisted goal at 46:36.
In beating Goucher for the first time since 2001, the Gators finished with a 21-20 edge in shots.
Kellen Matthews (Northboro, MA/Algonquin Regional) went the distance in goal for the Gophers and made nine saves.
