In a game filled with offensive opportunity, impressive defense, and two lightning delays, the Goucher women's soccer team made a strong showing against Marymount, ending in a 1-0 score.
Taty Jimenez (Modesto, CA/Enochs) started the Gophers' momentum early in the first half, scoring with a shot sent above the opposing goalkeeper's head. With the assist was Claudia Roller (Tucson, AZ/Sahuaro), who fed the ball to Jimenez off a fast break.
After the Roller/Jimenez goal, the Gophers' offense held possession with help from their sturdy defense keeping the ball away from their goal. Caroline Altman (Las Vegas, NV/Adelson Educational Campus) and Emily Quinn (Abington, PA/Abington) led the defense as they shut down Marymount and held them to just 7 shots in the game.
Jenna Abaza (Doylestown, PA/CB West) only saw three shots on-goal, but saved all three, leaving Marymount scoreless at the end of 83 minutes. The game was cut short due to lightning, allowing the Gophers to secure another in the win column.
The win takes the team to 2-2 on the season. Their next contest is on Saturday at Notre Dame of Maryland University with game time set for 3:00 PM.
