Gophers Rally Past Drew for Second Straight Win

MADISON, N.J. - The Goucher Colege women's soccer team scored twice in the second half, including the game-winning goal by Emma Yakim (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) with 3:16 remaining, to give the Gophers a 2-1 win at Drew University in a Landmark Conference contest Saturday afternoon.
- Goucher (6-7, 2-3 Landmark) got a shot on goal by Lily Shaffer (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) at 2:26 but the shot was saved by Drew (6-7-1, 1-3-1) goalie Anthi Panayides.
- Jenna Abaza (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) made her first save of the game at the 6:01 mark.
- The Rangers took a 1-0 lead at 12:09 at Ayla Lopez scored on a feed from Ela Christensen.
- Abaza turned aside an Autumn Slack shot attempt 4:14 before halftime.
- Olivia Chinitz (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Parker Collegiate Institute) had a shot blocked for the Gophers with just under four minutes left.
- Claudia Roller (Tucson, Ariz. / Sahuaro) had a pair of shots 15 minutes into the second half, one of which was saved by Panayides.
- In the 64th minute, Arianna Carman (Woolwich, N.J. / Kingsway) tied the game for Goucher when she raced through two Drew defenders and beat Panayides who had come out to play her.
- Drew generated a pair of corner kicks in the 72nd minute but did not get a shot away.
- Roller put another shot on Panayides with just over five minutes to play that she turned away.
- With just over three minutes left, Yakim took a pass, turned around and beat two Ranger defenders and fired low from 10 yards out to beat the sliding keeper.
- Goucher outshot Drew 7-5 on the afternoon.
- Yakim now has three goals this week and six on the season.
- Both Abaza and Panayides made three saves.
- Roller led the Gophers with three shots.
- The win over Drew was Goucher's first since 2016.
