Golden Wolves Hand Gophers First Setback of Season

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Alvernia University converted a pair of penalty kicks to build a 2-0 lead and scored three times in a span of 10:08 in the second half to down Goucher College 4-0 in non-conference women's soccer Wednesday night at Beldon Field The Golden Wolves handed the Gophers their first loss of the season.
- Alvernia (2-3-2) had two shots in the third minute but both were off-target.
- Taylor Urie (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) blasted a shot high just under 10 minutes into the game for Goucher (5-1).
- Two minutes later a deep shot by Carly Stevens (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) was saved by Golden Wolves' keeper Brynn Bock.
- Just shy of midway, the Gophers were whistled for a goal in the box. Gianna Ordanoff buried the penalty kick to put the hosts on top.
- Urie put a shot on frame with just under 15 minutes to go that was corraled by Bock.
- Daniella Blitz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) had a shot on goal in the opening minute of the second half that was stopped by Bock.
- Just over five minutes into the second half, Alvernia was awarded another penalty kick, which Haley Dougherty converted to make it 2-0.
- Dougherty struck again in the 57th minute to up AU's lead to 3-0.
- Kalyn Keen added a fourth goal for the Golden Wolves in the 61st minute.
- Urie had a long shot in the 63rd minute that was saved by Bock.
- Goucher goalie Marissa Spacht (Marlton, Pa./Garden Spot) made a save on a shot by Keen with just over 24 minutes left.
- Liz Hannaford (New London, Conn./St. Bernard School) tested Alvernia relief keeper Katelyn Dreibelbis with just over 20 minutes left.
- In the 75th minute Stevens had a shot on frame saves by Dreibelbis.
- Spacht made her final save in the 78th minute on a shot by Fontana.
- Goucher held a 10-9 shot advantage and a 3-1 lead in corner kicks.
- Bock and Dreibelbis made six saves en route to the combined shutout, while Spacht made a pair of saves.
- Urie led Goucher with four shots.
- Goucher opens up Landmark Conference action on Saturday when it hosts Drew in a 1 pm contest at Beldon Field.
