River Hawks Push Past Gophers in Second Half

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Susquehanna University converted a pair of second half corner kicks into goals as the River Hawks recorded a 2-0 Landmark Conference women's soccer victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Susquehanna (10-3, 3-0 Landmark) took a pair of shots in the first two minutes but were both wide.
- Goucher (7-4, 0-3) goalie Marissa Spacht (Marlton, Pa./Garden Spot) made her first save of the game in the seventh minute.
- Spacht made two more saves in the 10th and 14th minutes.
- In the 25th minute the River Hawks put two shots on goal that were both turned aside by Spacht.
- Carly Stevens (Hampstead, Md./Hereford) lifted a shot high in the final minute of the half.
- Susquehanna scored off a corner kick in the 49th minute as Ellie Betheil scored off the kick by Emily Wertz.
- The River Hawks scored on another corner just past the 60-minute mark as Marley Clendenin scored off a header by Gillian Maack. Wertz added her second assist of the afternoon.
- Becca Maddox (Panama City, Fla./Port St. Joe) sent a shot high for the Gophers in the 66th minute.
- SU keeper Paisley Tornatore made a save on a bid by Taty Jimenez (Modesto, Calif./Enochs) with just under 21 minutes to go.
- Tornatore made another save on a Taylor Urie (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) shot with just under 17 minutes to go.
- Spacht made her final save of the afternoon in the 77th minute.
- Urie had another shot on goal in the 85th minute as the Gophers continued to press forward.
- Susquehanna outshot Goucher 18-9 on the afternoon and took all six of the game's corner kicks.
- Spacht registered eight saves, while Tornatore posted three saves en route to her sixth shutout of the season.
- The River Hawks posted their eighth straight shutout as they extended their win streak to eight.
- Urie led Goucher with three shots.
- Goucher hosts Catholic on Wednesday at 7 pm at Beldon Field in Landmark Conference play.
