Scott Scores Early in 2-1 Setback to Scranton

TOWSON, Md. - Host Goucher College took a 1-0 lead on a Cassidy Scott goal just 30 seconds into the game, but defending conference champion Scranton scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-1 Landmark Conference women's soccer win Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Scott got Goucher (3-3-5, 0-2-2 Landmark) on the board moments after the opening whistle as she one-timed a right-to-left cross from the end line by Nora Neall to the short side of Scranton (7-2-3, 4-0) keeper Nicole Olson.
- The Royals responded just over four minutes later as Claire Mullholland won a footrace and found herself alone with Gopher goalie Madison Gutierrez, putting a low shot past her to tie the game.
- Mullholland pushed another shot high five minutes later.
- Gutierrez made a save on a Niamh Healy bid in the 19th minute.
- Goucher's Taylor Urie put a shot on goal in the 31st minute that was saved by Olson.
- Healy sent a shot high four minutes into the second half.
- Carly Stevens had a wide shot for Goucher with just under 35 minutes remaining.
- Mary Haggerty scored with 31:44 left on a give-and-go with Emily Bannon to put Scranton up 2-1.
- Gutierrez made back-to-back saves with just under 30 minutes remaining.
- Madison Ybarra had a deep shot on goal for the hosts with 10 minutes left that Olson handled.
- Neall had a shot on frame with just over five minutes on the clock that Olson turned aside.
- Scranton held a 14-6 shot advantage and took eight corner kicks to the Gophers' two.
- Gutierrez made six saves, while Olson registered three stops.
- Stevens had a pair of shots to lead the Gophers.
- Goucher suffered its first loss at Beldon Field this season and is now 2-1-3 at home.
- Goucher returns to action Tuesday night, hosting Susquehanna at 7 pm at Beldon Field in Landmark action.
