Eastern Builds Early Lead, Downs Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Eastern University scored three times in the game's first 34 minutes as it went on to shut out Goucher College 3-0 in non-conference women's soccer Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Eastern (4-0-2) scored just 1:57 into the contest at Billinda Leisner recorded an unassisted tally.
- In the eighth minute, Goucher's (0-4-1) Nora Neall had a shot blocked.
- Vivika Cordova had a shot blocked just under 12 minutes in, followed by back-to-back Gopher corner kicks.
- Emma Boyles had a shot saved by Eagle goalie Brooke Moskey in the 20th minute.
- The guests made it 2-0 as Mia Zucker lifted a shot from the right side of the box.
- Ashlynn Keys made it 3-0 with just under 11 minutes to go before intermission.
- EU's Paige Snell headed a ball over the crossbar in the first minute of the second half.
- Jordan Wood put a shot on goal six minutes in that was stopped by Moskey.
- Just over nine minutes later, Jasmine Haskell put a shot on frame that was turned aside.
- Gutierrez came up with a save on Leisner in the 68th minute.
- Ines Rodriguez put a shot on goal from the top of the box with three minutes left on which Moskey made her final save of the afternoon.
- Gopher relief keeper Olivia Jackson made a save on a shot by Paige Gianettio with just over two minutes left.
- Eastern outshot Goucher 19-11, while Goucher took five of the game's seven corner kicks.
- Gutierrez made eight saves, while Jackson recorded one save in 5:33 of action, her first collegiate appearance.
- Moskey made five saves en route to the shutout for Eastern.
- Wood, Rodriguez, Boyles and Cordova led the Gophers with two shots apiece.
- Goucher returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Neumann University for a 4 pm kickoff.
- The Gophers are back on Beldon next Saturday, September 21, when they host Notre Dame of Maryland in a 1 pm non-conference contest.
