Seahawks Pin First 2014-15 Setback on Gophers

The Gophers (3-1) emerged from the doubles competition with a 2-1 lead. Kelsey Turner (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) and Emily Ruff (Easton, Md./Easton) earned one of the points by prevailing in a tiebreaker at No. 2, completing a 9-8 (2) triumph over Melissa Barall and Mollie Johnson.
Goucher also found success at No. 3 where Alice Goldstein-Plesser (Durham, N.C./Durham School of the Arts) and Leigh Oehrig (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) polished off Lauren Rost and Chelsea English, 8-2.
The same two players who were victoruious at third doubles accounted for Goucher's two wins in singles play: Goldstein-Plesser knocked off Emily Rost 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 and Oehrig defeated Johnson 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (4) at No. 6.
Shannon Ramsey's 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Alex Walsh (Greens Farm, Conn./Staples) at first singles provvided the Seahawks (3-1) with a 4-3 lead in the overall match. They clinched when Lauren Rost completed her 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) at No. 4.
