Gophers Edged in Texas Opener

SEGUIN, Texas - The Goucher College women's tennis team was edged 5-4 by Texas Lutheran University in the Gophers' first match of a three-match Texas spring break trip on Tuesday at the Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center.
- Ceri McCaffrey (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) and Eliza Abady (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./The Masters School) earned an 8-2 win at No, 2 doubles for Goucher (2-5).
- Texas Lutheran (2-7) picked up a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles over Anais Dhillon (Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College) and Gigi Bellisario (Elmer, N.J./Woodstown).
- Abady registered a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
- Alex DiGiovanni (York, Pa./Dover) posted a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 4.
- The Gophers' other point came at No. 6 as Aaliyah Ybarra (Bastrop, Texas/Cedar Creek) won as her Bulldog opponent retired.
- DiGiovanni improved to 5-2 in singles play this season.
- Goucher is in action twice on Wednesday, facing Concordia (Texas) at 10 am Eastern and Mary Hardin-Baylor at 4 pm Eastern.
- The Gophers are next home Saturday, April 2, hosting Salisbury in an 11 am match at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
