TOWSON, Md. - Buoyed by a sweep of singles, the Goucher College women's tennis team opened Landmark Conference play with an 8-1 win over Elizabethtown College Friday evening at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
- Goucher (1-1, 1-0 Landmark) took a 2-1 lead after doubles.
- Rachel Haupt and Lucy Ingraham picked up an 8-1 win at No. 2, while Jessica Townes and Aaliyah Ybarra were 8-2 victors at No. 3.
- Natalia Navarro and Melin Sigen battled before dropping an 8-6 final at No. 1 to Elizabethtown (0-2, 0-2).
- Navarro prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 to earn the Gophers' first singles point.
- Haupt was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2 before Ingraham clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5.
- Townes won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 while Ybarra triumphed 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
- Sigen was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 3 to close out the evening.
- Goucher won its third straight match against Elizabethtown.
- Haupt and Townes each improved to 2-0 in singles play on the season.
- Goucher hosts York (Pa.) College at 1 pm Saturday in non-conference action at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
