Gophers Hand Saints First Setback of 2023-24

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Goucher College women's tennis team jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles and registered a 6-3 win over Marymount (Va.) University on Sunday afternoon at Virginia Highlands Park.
- Goucher (3-1), playing in its spring opener, took two of three doubles matches against Marymount (3-1).
- Natalia Navarro and Lucy Ingraham registered an 8-3 win at No. 1 to open the day.
- Jessica Townes and Aaliyah Ybarra battled for an 8-6 win at No. 3.
- Eliza Abady and Shelby Meek dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 2.
- Abady put the Gophers up 3-1 with her 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.
- Wins at No. 1 and No. 3 for Marymount tied the match 3-3.
- Navarro fell to her opponent 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, while at No 3, Ingraham forced a third set before a 6-2, 1-6, 10-2 defeat.
- Melin Sigen recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 to put the Gophers back in front 4-3.
- Sarai Oquendo Silveira clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
- Shelby Meek closed out the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.
- Goucher was playing its spring opener after being rained out twice thus far.
- The Gophers won their third straight match dating back to the fall.
- Townes and Ybarra won their second straight doubles match.
- Goucher and Marymount were meeting for the first time.
- Goucher plays at home on Thursday afternoon when it hosts Bryn Mawr in a 3 pm match at the Schroedl Tennis Center.
