YORK, Pa. – Goucher's six-match winning streak came to an end this evening when the Gophers were handed a 3-0 loss by York (18-13).
Set scores were 25-20, 25-14, 25-19.
Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic), the only player in the Landmark Conference who is averaging more than four kills per set this season, led the Gophers (16-15) in kills, but had only eight. Still, that was six more than the junior outside hitter needed to become the all-time leader in kills at Goucher with 1,130.
The record for kills in a career was 1,123 and was held by Karen Levi (1992-95).
As a team, Goucher committed 33 hitting errors in this evening's match and finished with a -.106 attack percentage.
The Gophers were looking to end an eight-match losing streak against York. The last time they defeated the Spartans was a 15-6, 4-15, 10-15, 15-11, 15-12 triumph on September 12, 2000.
This was the Gophers' final tune-up for next week's Landmark Conference championship tournament. In the opening round, they're scheduled to take on third-seeded Susquehanna.
