SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Goucher's 2008 season came to an end this evening when the Gophers bowed to third-seeded Susquehanna, 3-1, in the first round of the Landmark Conference postseason tournament.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-27, 25-21, 25-15.
In the first match since she became the all-time leader in kills in the history of Goucher's volleyball program, junior outside hitter Megan Smith (Honolulu, Hawaii/Long Beach Polytechnic) supplied head coach Michael Bossom's Gophers with 16 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore setter Claire-Sauvage-Mar (New Delhi, India/American Embassy School) and junior opposite hitter Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) were both credited with 18 digs, one more than sophomore libero Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial).
Sauvage-Mar also registered 34 assists.
The Gophers finished with a 16-16 record for a third straight season at .500 or better.
The Crusaders (26-12) advance in the tournament to play second-seeded Scranton in the semifinals on Saturday. The other semifinal pits top-seeded Juniata against No. 4 Moravian.
